Wolfecreek is a hobby kennel. The dogs are my children. We compete in conformation, obedience and hunting competitions. Although Labradors are my main breed (over 20 years), I also occasionally have Pointer puppies and have had English Setters, so you won't be surprised when you see them on the web site! When I breed, I do so to get something for myself first and the other puppies are sold to be great house companions for others. I do not breed a litter just to sale pet puppies like some breeders do. Some people do compete with their pets they buy from me, some take them hunting and some are with handicapped people or do therapy work. Besides just being great companions, more probably do therapy work with their owners than anything else. I breed for health & temperament first and looks & working ability second. Of course I want everything in a dog, so I am very picky about who I breed to who and the health clearances and background on both parents. The end result is that I get overall healthy, well tempered, smart, good looking dogs. Of course with any large breed dog there are health problems they are prone to and I do as many health clearances availble and check out the background of the pedigrees as much as possible to prevent as many problems as possible. This is the main reason you should pick a reputable breeder instead of a back yard or puppy mill breeder to buy a Labrador puppy from.

Be careful of Labrador breeders who only breed all yellow or all chocolate puppies or breeders who always have litters of puppies (or have many litters at one time or within a year's time) or who have puppies born outside, in a shed or outdoor building; always having a new litter ready to leave or letting them leave before 8 weeks is a red flag. Breeders who mass produce puppies tend to produce a great deal of health and temperament problems even if their living conditions are decent. Although we all sometimes use our own stud dogs, beware of a breeder who always uses only their own stud dogs; always having both parents on site should be a red flag. Reputable breeders also sale most, if not all of their puppies on a limited registration, so that can be another red flag.
